Essex/Boston/Concord, MA-Part 4: The Holocaust Memorial

On the way to Modern Pastry we stumbled upon this Holocaust memorial. The official name of it is the New England Holocaust Memorial. It was really well done. It had six glass structures that you can walk through, each representing a different concentration camp. All along the glass structures are 7-digit numbers representing the victims of the Holocaust. As you walk through the structures there are quotes and true stories engraved on the walls and steam rises from below. I commented to the kids that it reminded me of the gas chambers, and later I learned that was indeed the intent. It hit the mark eerily well. Although it was somber, I’m very glad we discovered this memorial along the way!

One of the glass structures…the picture doesn’t do it justice.
